CRIB TIME

It is one of the most difficult things we have to do with our babies. Getting them used to sleeping on their own in their crib is sometimes like trying to slay a dragon with a spoon. It is difficult to get baby quiet and happy without seeing mommy and daddy in the room. There are lots of different methods to getting your child to sleep on their own in their crib through the night. A friend of mine is currently roughing her way through the crying method. Neither mommy nor baby is very happy.

Every day at nap time and every night at bed time my poor friend is attempting to put her baby boy in bed without any tears. Unfortunately, that is exactly what she has an excess of, tears. After getting advice from other moms she decided to let her son cry it out each night in his crib in order to make him fall asleep on his own. The first night was bad for the baby. He cried the whole night through. But let’s face it; the baby wasn’t the emotional wreck. The mommy was. My poor friend has spent the last 4 nights listening to her only son cry his little heart out because he wants his mommy. She is utterly miserable. She wants so badly to go in and pick him up and rock him until his little eyes close and he drifts off into dreamland. But because she and her husband are ready for baby to move into his own room so that they can return to their normal sleep routines she is determined to ride this out.

She has tried feeding the baby before bed, making sure his little belly is full enough for a good night’s rest. She has tried giving him a warm bath with lavender soothing wash. But unfortunately all of this just wears out mommy and leaves baby boy ready for more loving attention. Tonight will be her 5th night with the crying method and she is not sure how much more she can take. All our friends can do is remind her it will be worth it when he sleeps through the night. But at the point I do not think she sees the light at the end of the tunnel. So as she prepares for another sleepless night I wonder how many of you have dealt with the same issue. Any sage advice from some old pros?
